Hospital
Sturgeon Community Hospital, St. Albert
In the Capital Health region, the Sturgeon Community Hospital is an 80 bed hospital offering a wide variety of health care services to St. Albert and the surrounding area.

Westlock Health Care Centre, Westlock
In the Aspen Regional Health Authority region, the Westlock Health Care Centre has 40 acute care beds including two special care, two step down beds and two labour-delivery. The Centre has four day procedure beds and a satellite renal dialysis centre. Westlock also has 124 long term care beds.

Under the auspices of the Aspen Regional Health Authority, Morinville has developed 40 assisted living/alternate housing rooms and four short stay suites. Assisted living is a residential setting comprised of one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites and the four respite/short stay rooms.

Health care services are in the process of transitioning to the Capital Region in 2003 following the provincial government’s announcement of new health region boundaries.

Public Health and Community Care

Morinville is a location for an office of the Capital Health Region Services. A new diagnostic health centre is slated to open in 2003 in Morinville.

The area can access public health services and programs to assist individuals and communities to create healthy and supportive environments. Partnerships with families, community agencies and businesses are essential to the success of these programs.

Programs include:

  • Healthy Families – prenatal education, healthy beginnings, breastfeeding connections, well-child & immunization clinics, community genetics services, children’s dental clinic, communicable disease control and follow-up, school health services, regional dietician services, diabetes education services, Screen Test and more;
  • Health Protection – communicable disease control regulation, personal care standards, food regulation, housing regulation, swimming pool regulation, consultative services on environment and more; Health Promotion – tobacco control programs, heart health, wear a helmet program and numerous education/information programs;
  • Home Living (Community Care) – services provide support to individuals with short or long term needs related to chronic illness or disability to remain in their homes. These services may include personal care assistance, household management and respite for family care providers.
